A patchwork gallery of my paintings and illustrations 'The Storyteller' Acrylic on Oak - 2017 The Storyteller came about from wanting to paint a male archetype after having focused so much on female ones. I'd also just returned from visiting family in Singapore so wanted to draw in some hits of my Chinese ancestry through story and image. I had initially planned to draw him wearing a green coat, and looking fairly pagan. After my trip, however, I decided to go for red and gold, colours that represent celebration in Chinese culture. Like other paintings of mine that explore different aspects of identity, here we have a stag roaming Celtic lands, alongside a dragon straight out of an Asian story. He may also look a little like a well known figure that we associate with Wintery celebrations and gift-giving!
